The Community of Heroes and Big Dog Running Company are pleased to announce the 5th Annual Wounded Warrior 5k/10k in Uptown Columbus presented by Cheeseburger Bobby’s. The race will be held on Saturday morning, October 25, with pre-race registration beginning at 7:00 AM and the event starting at 8:30 AM.
There will be awards for both events, Male and Female in all age classes. Register online at www.estartline.com or at any Big Dog Running location. Save $10 with Advance registration for $25. Cost is $35 on race day. Race packets may be picked up on Friday afternoon at the Big Dog Running location at 1104 Broadway or before the race on Saturday morning.
There will also be a free one mile walk with the Soldiers beginning at 8:00 AM. Come show your support for our soldiers and veterans.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Ft. Benning Wounded Warrior Association and the local chapter of the Combat Veterans Association.

Team Blue Hand Car Wash and Detail opened its first store and corporate location in State College, PA, in 2008 and began franchising in 2009. They have one franchise unit open in Mechanicsburg, PA, with their long-term goal to be the first national car wash brand.

Cheeseburger Bobby’s is the leading gourmet hamburger chain in the greater Atlanta area with nine locations—one corporate store and eight franchised units. Cheeseburger Bobby’s opened in 2007 and founder, Bobby Stoll, wants to grow the chain into a regional powerhouse with more than 75 restaurants in the next several years.

It’s hard to make longtime franchise sales rep Greg Tanner speechless, but MFV Exposition President/CEO Tom Portesy managed it. MFV, organizers of franchise trade shows, threw a surprise party at the International Franchise Expo’s exhibitors’ party to celebrate Tanner’s retirement from Aaron’s.

Invited guests toasted Tanner’s long career, as Portesy awarded him with a plaque noting his varied accomplishments to franchising. The Wall Street Journal also paid tribute.

Franchise Times got into the action by presenting Tanner with his own Franchise Times cover, complete with fake cover lines. Our favorite: “Exposé: Tanner admits to years of faking Southern charm. ‘I’m really a Yankee.’”

It’s hard to say good-by to some people, and Tanner especially, because he’s not going away. The affable sales guru is starting his own consulting company, Tanner Franchise Group, with Dave Kelley, a marketing and advertising executive.

His second wind is not only because he feels he still has a lot to give back to franchising, but because as he says, “My wife said she married me for better or worse, but not for lunch every day.”

His first full day at home, he quipped, his wife looked up from her newspaper at the breakfast table and said, “Are you still here?”
